(6/10) Update: We should have an updated version of the Viewbar available sometime this week (v1.01 or v1.1) that incorporate fixes to many of the issues Members have been experiencing. For Members currently without a Viewbar, this updated version will be the one available for download on the website. If you have a Viewbar already, your software should automatically self-update with the new version (if this does not happen within a short while of us announcing the new version, right-click on the “AGLOCO” icon in the viewbar, select “Options”, and there should be a button to “Check for Updates”). You can always see which version you are running by right-clicking on the Viewbar icon in the Windows task bar and selecting “About” - the Viewbar version you are running will be displayed. Again, we expect this update to be ready at some point this week.

Also, the ad server people are aware of the ad rotation issue and they are working on it.

Notification Emails - From the last blog post:

Please note ALL Members will be sent an email inviting them to download. Also, we will send additional emails to those who have not logged any time on the Viewbar servers, reminiding them to download their Viewbar (this will happen after the initial “rush” has passed).

At this point we have sent emails to a little over 1/3 of the Members – this does not mean they all read them as some bounce and some still get put into junk mail (for instance if the Member has not yet made agloco a ‘safe’ sender on their email filters). As I mentioned before, in a week or so we will send out a reminder to those who have not yet logged in their Viewbar.

Website - The engineers rebalanced all the servers again and the site should be more responsive (although with all the initial Viewbar downloads coming through the account page and people now checking hours it tends to clog it up).

Please note that right now we are giving almost instantaneous hour calculations on the account page. We will be changing this to daily updates (as it says on the account page) in a few days. We wanted to start with instantaneous so that early users would see that it is working, but when more and more people start checking hours it would overload our database server so we will go to daily (this impacts the back-end database load but doesn’t impact the website performance).

A point of clarification: Referral hours are calculated to the person who referred them at a 25% rate (so if one of your referrals surfs for 5 hours this will show up in your account as 1.25 hours). This is the current rate posted on the website.

Ads - As I wrote yesterday in an update to the last blog post:

Your Viewbar should now say “Ads to appear here shortly, Click for Viewbar FAQ”, though at times the ad server people might “play” with the ads as they fix their servers (I know a Jewelry ad was up for awhile yesterday). If it does not say that or have an ad up, quit the Viewbar (right click on the green O in the windows task bar and then click on quit). Then using your start menu relaunch a new Viewbar (the AGLOCO Viewbar should be a choice in your start menu after download). This should relaunch your connection to your severs.

As mentioned before, the ad rotation has been down for about 30 hours at this point. Your Viewbar is working fine - it is the ad serving people whose servers went down with the load. I do not have an update from them on their timing to correct the issue. They do not work for AGLOCO (actually they pay us to show ads), so we are encouraging them to work as fast as they can to fix it.

I will update you all on the ad server when I can – but in all likelihood you will see the ads rotating before I can post about it on this blog.

I do not currently have an estimate as to when the ads will go live again. Your Viewbar is working perfectly in this regard and is currently pinging the ad server for a new ad every 30 seconds (they just put up the “Ads to appear here shortly, Click for Viewbar FAQ” message while they work on the rotation issue).

Finally, we sincerely appreciate any bug reports we may not already be aware of or usage questions you may have. Please send them to both help@agloco.com and bgreenwald@agloco.com so we can attend to the issues (and clarify the questions, perhaps on the FAQ page) as quickly as possible. If you are reporting a bug, please be as detailed as possible in explaining what was going on when the error occurred, including your operating system, browser version, and any other relevant information. Thanks!

I will keep you posted on the ad situation as I get updates from the ad server people.

The AGLOCO Viewbarâ„¢

The Viewbarâ„¢ is a small toolbar that rests on the bottom of your screen or browser window while you surf the Internet. The Viewbarâ„¢ software is what enables AGLOCO to collect the money you are earning while browsing the Internet.

The Viewbarâ„¢ keeps track of your online interests and preferences, and uses that information to deliver the most valuable message to you at the right time. Because privacy is a core principle of AGLOCO, the Viewbarâ„¢ communicates with our secure servers in an encrypted fashion to keep your information private.

Some people have asked: “Is the Viewbar™ some kind of ‘spyware’?” The answer is simple: The Viewbar™ is the opposite of spyware. Spyware sneaks onto your computer without your knowledge or permission, it steals your private information, and it’s nearly impossible to remove. Unlike spyware, the Viewbar™ is completely permission based, it keeps your information private, and you can always turn it off with a single click.

The AGLOCO Viewbarâ„¢ (currently in limited beta) is shown below:

NOTE: The AGLOCO Viewbarâ„¢ is currently in limited beta testing and is not yet available for download. We expect that it will start to be available to download in several weeks. It will be released to Members in the order in which Members signed up. No testers are receiving any earnings while using the Viewbarâ„¢ in this testing phase. For now, we ask you to build the community, because both you and AGLOCO make more if you grow the community.

The Viewbarâ„¢ also has many additional features:

* Search (which lets us get you money from search engine companies)
* Contextual ads (which lets us get you money from advertisers)
* Anti-fraud and other software utilities (which lets us get you money from software companies)

How can I make money with AGLOCO ?

How can I make money with AGLOCO ?

* Search:
Every time you use the Viewbarâ„¢ to do an Internet search, AGLOCO earns money from the search engine providers. (For example, Google pays as much as $0.10 on average for each search that is directed to its search engine.)
* Advertising:
The Viewbar™ itself displays ads that are targeted based upon the websites you’re visiting. When you click on an ad and make a purchase, AGLOCO receives a referral fee, which we pass on to our Members. (Please note: Individual members do not receive any compensation for clicking on ads in the Viewbar™, and the Viewbar™ can detect if someone is clicking ads in a fraudulent manner.)
* Transaction commissions:
Many major retailers pay commissions when you refer customers who make a purchase. AGLOCO collects that commission and passes it on to our members. (For example, Amazon pays an 8.5% commission to most websites who refer customers, and has cut deals for even larger percentages. The bigger the AGLOCO community, the better commission we can negotiate for our Members.)
* Software distribution:
Numerous software companies pay websites to encourage the download of new software releases (for example, Adobe’s Flash and Acrobat Reader software), and trial versions of new programs. AGLOCO members not only get access to the latest and coolest software, they get paid for it.
* Service distribution:
Many online service providers will look to the AGLOCO community as a source of new and active users for their services. (For example, Skyp, and Pay Pal, among others, all pay fees to people who help them recruit new active users to their services)

Using Viral Marketing Strategies to Bring More Viewers to your Site

Using Viral Marketing Strategies to Bring More Viewers to your Site

By: Dustin Cannon

Viral marketing describes a new method of online marketing that uses pre existing internet social networks to help distribute marketing materials. The name carries an unfortunate connotation because when many people associate the word viral with computer viruses.

Viral marketing is nothing at all like the destructive and malicious software that has so often wreaked havoc on the internet. It is so named not because of any kinship with computer viruses; rather, the name viral marketing comes from the way that the message is transmitted from user to user much the same way as a virus is transmitted from host to host.

In its ideal form, the results in an exponential distribution as one user can transmit the message to multiple other users who can then go on to transfer the message to another group of multiple users and so on. For this method of transmission to work, the advertisement must be something that the users enjoy and want to share with their friends and other members of their social networks. To accomplish this, viral
marketing has taken on a number of forms, from amusing videos to flash video games to innovate web sites.

Flash video games are a prominent vessel for viral marketing campaigns since the user enjoys playing them (if they are well made) and is likely to want to share the game with his or her friends. Flash is the ideal technology for viral marketing video games since it is
relatively easy to develop games, it integrates seamlessly with properly designed web pages, and it is common enough that most users will have the software necessary to play them.

Another great form of viral marketing is the funny or unusual video. Internet videos have gained a great deal of popularity in recent years as more users acquire high speed internet connections (forget about trying to watch most internet videos on dial up) and central internet video repositories such as YouTube and Google Video have increased in popularity.

Another form of viral marketing, and perhaps the most controversial, is using blogs or other web sites that appear to come from actual internet users. Such web sites might feature an interesting or amusing situation that grabs the attention of readers and encourages them to follow the blog or website for more information. This type of marketing typically spreads via word of mouth, email, message boards, and other
means of transmission. While these campaigns can generate a great deal of buzz and traffic, there is typically a customer backlash when the true nature of the campaign is discovered. Readers typically feel duped and lied-too when they discover that the interesting story that they have been following is actual a fabrication generated to market some product or service.
